About

Founded on August 19, 1963, The Maple Restaurant is a landmark in the Beaver Valley area. The “famous” hot roast beef sandwich is the restaurant’s signature dish along with other customer favorites – coleslaw and rice pudding. The secret family recipes have made The Maple’s homestyle menu a favorite place for generations of local families and area visitors to enjoy. The friendly atmosphere and the values that started this business – quality, variety, and quantity – continue to bring new customers into the restaurant and keep current customers coming back week after week.

Jim and Joyce Pappas founded the restaurant at its current Maplewood Avenue location in Ambridge. They began a restaurant success story that centers around fair prices, generous portions, and a homestyle menu that has something to please everyone. Homemade daily soup selections and daily sandwich and dinner specials are offered for variety and allow The Maple to try out new items before adding an item to the regular menu. Most items, like the hot beef sandwich, have been featured on the menu since the first day of operations in 1963.

Jim and Joyce’s son, Tom, and his wife Charlotte were the second generation of Pappas ownership to continue these well-tested recipes and traditions. Today, the business philosophy that started with Jim and Joyce is entrusted to Tom & Charlotte’s son, Fred, and his wife, Samantha, as they carry on the 50-year-old legacy started by his grandparents - quality, variety, and quantity. Fred and Sam operate The Maple with the same values and traditions with the hope that many future generations of customers will return to this much-loved restaurant for a “hot beef with fries, gravy all over” with a side of coleslaw and, of course, some rice puddin’ for dessert.
